Trooper is our poster-kitty for why cats should live indoors-only. This sweet love-bug survived a double break in his femur after being hit by a car.

7/11/11 Update:

Guess what?  I've been adopted and my new name is REMY!   Isn't that wonderful?   I have a new family in Austin and they have a nice young black lab who's working on becoming my new best friend.    He's the first dog I've ever lived with, and so far I think I like him.   He really wants to play with me, and I'm thinking about it.

I really appreciate all the time and attention ASR and my sponsors gave me, especially helping me get over the broken leg and the endless search for the source of my intestinal trouble.    My vet and prescription bills totaled $2300 during the 7 months I was in foster care and without the rescue's support I wouldn't have made it out of the shelter and into a forever home.    Even with all the support I got at adoption events, fundraisers and online, my donations didn't cover half my cost.   It's not too late to help, you can still make a tax-deductible donation to help pay for my care, or sponsor another deserving ASR cat by donating today via Paypal online or by sending a check.   ASR will recognize your donation online and with a tax donation receipt.    Thanks for your support and prayers for health.   It worked and at last I have a wonderful, loving INDOOR forever home (with NO Persians in residence - yippee!).

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hi, my name is Trooper.   I’ve been a foster cat at ASR for about 7 months now, and I have packed a lot activity into that short time.    You see last fall I was hit by a car and broke my left femur in two places.   Ouch!   I think the driver was texting or something – he just drove on by.   Can you believe the nerve of some people?    So, being the “trooper” that I am, I just dusted myself off and learned to scrounge for myself on three legs.    Yes, it hurt, but I managed for a couple of months before someone saw me and took me to Town Lake Animal Center at Thanksgiving.   Town Lake is a “kill shelter” in Austin, not exactly the place I had planned to spend the holidays.
So I got lucky when some babes from Austin Siamese Rescue took me from the shelter and found a vet to fix my leg in early December.   This vet guy really liked me, he gave the ASR gals a nice discount and fixed me up good as new.    He shaved my leg and put a pin in it – check out my cool x-rays in the photo section if you want to see what it looked like.    I was pretty skinny when I went home to live with my new foster parents, but they gave me good chow and treated me for parasites, worms and such (who would have thought all those things could live INSIDE me?  Yuck!).  I had to take medicine for a really, reallly long time and we tried several special diets (I hated the soy-protein one - Double YUCK!).   I had to see a specialist and finally, at last I'm better.   My parasites are gone and I'm doing great on a special Royal Canin Hypoallergenic Diet made with Rabbit and Pea.  I love it, and I'm getting to be a big, healthy boy, as you can see from my photos.
The doc took the pin out of my leg in February so now I can run and play like nobody's business.   You should see me fly up and down the stairs.   I also like to get up high on the kitchen cabinets above the refrigerator when I’m feeling really naughty!   My upper body strength is pretty amazing and I can pull myself up onto just about anything if I want to bad enough.    I use both my back legs and the healed one is getting stronger every day.    Y`ou wouldn’t know that 8 months ago my leg was broken if the hair on my leg wasn’t growing back in a darker color.   They say that’s typical of Siamese, and eventually it will all grow back in the same color.
My foster mom brags on me all the time for being so handsome, nice and active, but you won’t catch me doing those things at an adoption event.   I hate ‘em.   You see I went to the vet a lot in the last 7 months and my foster mom took me to a bunch of fundraising/adoption events where I had to sit in this boring cage and be patient with people poking at me.    She said it was to help pay for my surgery, but I don’t have money, so why did I need to be there?    Talk about torture - she might as well have taken to the vet.  I hated it!    So now I’ve figured out the perfect way to not go to them anymore.   I growl and throw a hissy fit about adoption events and she lets me stay home.    So if you want to meet me and chill out at my foster home, give her a call.   I’m a cool cat and love visitors – just not while I’m in a cage.    Other than adoption events, the only other thing I don't like are Persians. Especially white ones. Don't ask me why, but I just hate white Persians. So if you have a white Persian cat or think you might get one in the future, I am NOT the cat for you!
Yeah, the tough guy act is all a ruse.   I’m really a lover-boy at heart and have a big purr and a soft spot for laps and people who will play with me.    I like other highly active cats, children and just about everyone I’ve ever met in my life.   My favorite toys are mylar crinkle balls, wand toys and anything with catnip in it.    I like to talk and sometimes I’ve been known to talk to myself, although much of the time I’m talking I have something to say that I want you to pay attention to, so listen up!   They say I’m a seal point Siamese, about 1 year old, but really, I’m a rare breed - a survivor who lived to tell my story after being hit by a car and nearly losing my leg.    My parents say my new home needs to be a very special one where I can’t ever go outside again unless I’m on a harness and leash, since it’s dangerous out there.
So if you want to meet me, please complete an adoption application online.  It's free and takes less than 10 minutes to complete.   I really am nicest to visit in my foster home.  Once your application is approved by the ASR babes, you can set up a time to come visit me by contacting my foster mom, Pam at pcgerritsen@gmail.com.
